The Leeds and Grenville Small Business Enterprise Centre (LGSBEC) had six students participate in its 2006 Summer Company program. The program is funded by the Ministry of Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship (MSBE) and administered by LGSBEC. Summer Company allows youth to run their own businesses throughout the course of the summer and provides participants with cash awards for start-up expenses, mentorship with local business owners, and hands-on business training. Summer Company is an Ontario-wide program that has accepted over 300 students this year alone. The six participants in the Leeds and Grenville area included two residents of Kemptville who were Josh Brown of Josh Brown Photography, who offered portraits for special events, and Christian Condon of Clean Cut, who offered lawn care. Summer Company businesses located in Brockville included: Cody King of Pick-up Truck 4 Hire, who owns his own pick-up truck and helped with heavy moving, Nick Pasowisty of From The Pit Productions, who hosted G-rated youth concerts at Schooner’s Pub in St. Lawrence College, Nathan Reynolds of Reynolds Media Masters, who converted vinyl records and cassette tapes to CD and VHS movies to DVD, and Steve Van Mierlo of Hidden City, who created his own website design company specializing in business and personal homepages.
